Course levels
Clear pathways from beginner to advanced German
A1, A2, DSD I, and DSD II give families a simple way to understand progress and readiness for exams.
A1
Beginner German
Grades 2/3 to 4
Students learn basic words, greetings, simple phrases, classroom language, and everyday communication.
A2
Everyday Communication
Grades 5 to 7/8/9
Students practise simple routine conversations, familiar topics, reading comprehension, and stronger sentence patterns.
DSD I
B1 German Diploma
For students with A2 preparation
DSD I supports students ready to work toward B1-level reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.
DSD II
B2/C1 Advanced German
Advanced high school students
DSD II is designed for advanced students and may support academic pathways connected to German-speaking institutions.
Who can register?+
Children, teens, and adults in Waterloo Region are welcome to inquire. Learners may come from German-speaking families, heritage backgrounds, or be completely new to the language.
Do you offer classes for adults?+
Yes. Adult learners can begin German or continue building their skills in a supportive community setting.
What level should my child start at?+
Placement depends on age, previous German knowledge, and language confidence. Beginners may start at A1, while students with prior experience may be ready for A2 or exam preparation.
What are DSD exams?+
DSD exams are German language diploma exams for students learning German outside Germany. DSD I corresponds approximately to B1, while DSD II assesses advanced B2/C1-level German.
